Ethiopia's Headline Inflation Drops to 13.21% in 2025, EEA Study Shows
Ethiopia’s headline inflation has experienced a significant decline, dropping from a high of 34.04 percent in 2022 to 13.21 percent in 2025, according to a recent study conducted by the Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA). Despite this notable reduction in headline numbers, the association warned that several underlying structural and macroeconomic issues continue to pose severe risks to the economy. The EEA highlighted that persistent price shocks remain a major challenge for households and businesses across the country. Additionally, the slow transmission of monetary policy measures has hindered the effectiveness of government efforts to fully stabilize the market. The study also pointed out a concerning trend of declining confidence in Ethiopia’s overall economic policy framework, which threatens to limit the positive impacts of the lowered inflation rate. Without addressing these systemic vulnerabilities, the gains achieved in reducing inflation may be difficult to sustain over the long term.
