Ethiopia's IMF Shareholding and Economic Growth Analysis
Ethiopia's shareholding in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) stands at 300.7 million Special Drawing Rights (SDR), equivalent to approximately 410.3 million dollars. This holding is considered small relative to the IMF's valuation of Ethiopia's economy at 126.35 billion dollars. Zeine Zeidane, director of the IMF's African Department, stated that Ethiopia's growth trajectory distinguishes it from other low-income nations.
He noted that this disparity between the shareholding and the actual economic size was a key factor in granting Ethiopia exceptional access to financing. Consequently, the IMF has initiated a current programme for the country valued at over 3.4 billion dollars. This support is intended to bolster the country's ongoing economic development and stabilization efforts.
