Addis Ababa City Cabinet grants land subdivision approval power to Mayor

The Addis Ababa City Cabinet has amended the regulation on land holding rights and service delivery, granting Mayor Adanech Abiebie sole authority to approve land subdivisions for allotted plots. Previously, these subdivisions required full Cabinet approval, which officials noted led to delays in land administration and service delivery. While the Cabinet retains the power to decide the recipients of land allotments, the technical approval of how that land is divided now rests solely with the Mayor. This administrative change, enacted last week, is intended to expedite the land allotment process and reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks associated with scheduling Cabinet meetings.
