Somaliland President Irro made a high-profile visit to the United States in September, securing significant access to American lawmakers, policy institutions, and business audiences. However, an opinion piece authored by Zakarie Mohamed Abdi highlights that gaining access does not automatically equate to a successful policy outcome. The author argues that the critical test for Somaliland now lies in its ability to sustain these newly forged relationships over time. Practical cooperation must be developed from the initial discussions regarding diplomatic recognition, maritime security, trade, and investment.
