Ethiopia signs second-phase LNG development deal for Ogaden gas field
The Ethiopian government has signed an agreement with Chinese firms GCL Group and Jurong Group to develop the second phase of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project at the Calub gas field in the Somali Region. The deal was signed on October 16 at the Ministry of Mines in Addis Ababa, in the presence of Minister Alemtsehay Paulos. The contract encompasses engineering, construction, natural gas liquefaction, and processing services. This agreement builds upon a strategic cooperation framework signed by the two companies in May 2026. It follows the successful commissioning of the project’s first phase, which took place in October 2025. The initiative is part of the government's broader efforts to expand the commercial utilization of the country’s natural gas reserves.
