EHRCO Reports Alarming Civilian Deaths and Abductions Across Four Regions
The Ethiopian Human Rights Council (EHRCO) has released a report detailing alarming levels of violence against civilians across the Amhara, Gambella, Oromia, and Benishangul-Gumuz regions. In a statement issued on October 22, the council highlighted that ongoing conflicts involving armed actors have led to civilian deaths, injuries, abductions, property destruction, and mass displacement.
The report underscores that these activities have severely violated citizens' fundamental rights, including the right to life, personal security, and freedom of movement. Emphasizing that the right to life must be respected, EHRCO has called upon both federal and regional authorities to urgently strengthen civilian protection mechanisms and ensure that perpetrators of these violations are held accountable for their actions.
