Ethiopia Officially Accuses Eritrean Forces of Direct Involvement in Northern Conflict
A senior Ethiopian official, Dr. Abraham Belay, has officially confirmed that Eritrean forces crossed the border and directly participated in the recent renewed fighting in northern Ethiopia. Speaking to Fana Broadcasting Corporate, Dr. Abraham stated that Eritrean troops fought alongside TPLF forces against the federal army and that significant numbers of Eritrean weaponry and personnel were captured. He warned that Eritrea's direct involvement with rebels would face a decisive and doubled response from the Ethiopian government. Eritrea's Minister of Information, Yemane Gebremeskel, rejected the accusations, claiming the Ethiopian government routinely blames neighbors to distract from internal crises. The announcement comes alongside reports that the Tigray region's capital, Mekelle, has come under the control of federal and partner forces after TPLF forces withdrew. Dr. Abraham also accused the TPLF of violating the Pretoria Peace Agreement since its signing by continuing to train troops, procure arms, and align with external entities.
