Over 50 Killed in Heavy Weapon Attacks in Alamata and Surrounding Areas
Heavy artillery attacks and intense fighting in Alamata and surrounding areas over several days have resulted in the deaths of at least 50 to 65 civilians, according to local residents and hospital sources. The victims include a three-day-old infant and elderly individuals up to 68 years old, with many others injured in civilian zones such as market areas, near hotels, and residential neighborhoods. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reported a sharp increase in war-wounded patients, with figures in Korem and Alamata hospitals rising from 180 to 420 within 48 hours. A hospital source noted that the Ethiopian National Defense Force entered Alamata on September 28 and took full control of the area. Heavy fighting was also reported in nearby localities including Tao, Gubagala, Merewa, and Raya Mandar. The resurgence of clashes has driven pregnant women, children, and the elderly to flee toward towns in search of safety.
