Kenya confirms four new Ebola cases
Kenya's Ministry of Health has announced the confirmation of four new cases of the Bundibugyo Ebola virus, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the country to seven. Among those newly infected are three health workers who treated the initial Ebola patient, as well as a relative of the deceased individual. Authorities stated that all 130 individuals who came into contact with the patients have been identified, and most are currently under quarantine. There is currently no evidence of widespread community transmission.
This specific strain is linked to the ongoing outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the virus originated. One Kenyan citizen, who had been residing in the DRC, previously died in Kenya after traveling from Kampala to Nairobi. The World Health Organization has noted that developing a vaccine for this specific Bundibugyo strain remains a challenge, as clinical trials have not yet been conducted.
