Donald Trump criticizes Norway for not winning Nobel Peace Prize

US President Donald Trump has strongly criticized the Norwegian government after failing to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump labeled the decision to award the prize to former UN human rights chief Navi Pillay as shameful and an indelible stain on Norway. The Nobel Committee maintains that its decisions are made independently of the government. This is not the first time Trump has expressed frustration over the prize, having previously criticized the committee in 2025 regarding Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. Navi Pillay, 85, joked in response that if the applause continued, she might share the prize with Trump.
