Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has officially announced that Ethiopia has received 12 advanced Su-35 fourth-generation fighter jets from Russia. This acquisition makes Ethiopia the first nation in sub-Saharan Africa to operate these advanced military aircraft. The Prime Minister stated that the purchase, which includes upcoming plans for S-400 air defense systems, aims to strengthen the country's national defense capabilities. The move comes amid heightened regional security tensions involving neighboring Eritrea and Sudan, as well as ongoing domestic security challenges. During the announcement, Abiy Ahmed thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for expediting the delivery.
