Over 40 people killed in attack in Shirka district, Oromia

At least 46 people, including children, have been killed in a violent attack in the Shirka district of the Arsi zone, Oromia region. Residents reported that the attack occurred on Saturday, October 24, 2026, and involved the mass burial of victims. Approximately 20 others were injured and transported to hospitals. The Oromia Regional Government has condemned the attack, attributing it to "anti-peace forces" and specifically alleging that a coalition involving the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA), TPLF, and Fano militia is responsible. The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission has confirmed it is monitoring the situation. Meanwhile, residents described being surrounded from four directions by armed assailants during the early morning hours.
