Young man treks over 250km on foot to attend Irreecha festival

Ifaa Baqqalaa, a young man from the Danno district of the Oromia region, trekked over 250 kilometers on foot to attend the Irreecha festival in Finfinnee. Starting his journey on September 20, 2026, he walked for 12 days carrying only essential items, including a traditional Gadaa flag symbolizing peace and unity. Ifaa stated that his motivation for the long walk was to celebrate Oromo culture and promote unity among the people, urging brotherly cohesion. Throughout his journey, he faced minor security checks but was largely supported by the communities he passed through. Upon his return, he received a warm welcome from his local community and officials in recognition of his efforts.
