OFC criticizes federal government's silence on Moyale conflict
The Oromo Federalist Congress (OFC) has criticized the federal government for its silence regarding the ongoing violence and displacement in Moyale, Borana Zone. Tensions escalated last Sunday following an incident involving a regional flag, leading to deadly clashes, property damage, and the death of a 13-year-old girl. Residents report the use of heavy weaponry and extensive destruction of homes and businesses in the area. While reports on casualties vary, at least nine people have been confirmed dead, with thousands of residents forced to flee across the border into Kenya. The OFC condemned the attacks, attributing them to armed forces from the Somali region and labeling them as unconstitutional attempts to expand territory. The party demanded an immediate cessation of hostilities and accused the federal government of failing to protect civilians. Neither the Oromia nor the Somali regional governments have issued statements on the ongoing unrest.
