Dr. Abraham Belay Confirms Direct Eritrean Military Involvement in Ethiopian Conflict
A senior Ethiopian government official, Dr. Abraham Belay, has officially confirmed that Eritrean troops crossed the Ethiopian border and directly participated in the ongoing armed conflict. Speaking during an interview on Fana TV, Dr. Abraham stated that Eritrean forces actively fought alongside insurgent groups on the frontline, wearing weapons and military equipment, resulting in heavy casualties and captured hardware. He warned that the Ethiopian government's response to this foreign intervention and violation of national sovereignty would be severe and decisive. Following these developments, Ethiopia closed its embassy in Asmara and expelled Eritrean diplomats, leading Eritrea to sever diplomatic ties completely. However, Eritrean Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel rejected the allegations, accusing the Ethiopian government of blaming neighboring countries to divert attention from internal political crises. Officials in Afar Region had previously reported capturing Eritrean combatants and equipment within their territory.
