Whereabouts of Lt. Gen. Tadesse Worede Unknown After Abduction by Tigray Forces
The whereabouts of Lieutenant General Tadesse Worede remain unknown eight days after he was taken from his residence by Tigray forces, according to BBC sources citing family members. Family sources reported that security personnel forcibly removed him from the HZ Hotel around 11:30 PM after he initially refused to leave with them earlier in the day. Relatives have expressed severe concerns for his safety, fearing he could be harmed or handed over to Eritrean authorities, and have alerted diplomats regarding the situation. Lt. Gen. Tadesse previously served as the commander-in-chief of Tigray forces during the two-year war and signed the military component of the Pretoria Peace Agreement. His disappearance coincides with TPLF forces withdrawing from Mekelle as Ethiopian federal forces advance toward the regional capital. Additionally, reports indicate that the split 'Tigray Peace Force,' allied with the federal government, has captured the region's main airport amid growing concerns over looting and lawlessness in the city.
