Debretsion Announces New Fighting in Tigray Amid Rising Regional Tensions
TPLF Chairman Debretsion Gebremichael announced that new fighting has erupted in various parts of Tigray since last week, framing the conflict as an existential struggle. Tensions have escalated regionally, involving complex diplomatic fallouts where Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Egypt have expelled diplomats and severed ties. Ethiopian Field Marshal Birhanu Jula rejected a newly formed opposition coalition, accusing Eritrea, Egypt, and Sudan of providing backing to armed groups. Doctors Without Borders (MSF) reported over 420 wounded individuals arriving at hospitals in Korem, Alamata, and Shire within 48 hours, highlighting a severe humanitarian impact as telecom services remain cut off in Tigray.
