Mother who appealed on Facebook receives kidney donation from stranger

Karen Davis, a 41-year-old mother who faced critical kidney failure, has successfully received a kidney transplant from a stranger, Gary Summerfield. Davis, who previously underwent a heart transplant, turned to Facebook as a last resort after her family members were not compatible donors. Summerfield, a 60-year-old security guard, saw her post and volunteered, driven by empathy for her children. The surgery took place at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff. The procedure has been described by Davis and her family as a life-saving gift that gives her a second chance at motherhood.
