The Critical Role of Satellite Internet in Modern Warfare

Satellite internet systems like Starlink are increasingly becoming critical strategic assets in modern warfare, comparable to traditional military hardware. These networks allow military forces to coordinate drone operations, share real-time intelligence, and maintain communication lines even when terrestrial infrastructure is destroyed. The heavy reliance on commercial satellite services has raised strategic concerns regarding military dependency on private sector decisions. Recent reports from Ukraine regarding speed limitations on Starlink-connected drones highlight how these platforms directly influence operational outcomes. As future conflicts rely more on AI and drone swarms, connectivity is now viewed as an essential component of military power.
