Ethiopia's Export Revenue Rises by 25.75% Driven by Mining Sector Growth

Ethiopia's export revenue reached 3.14 billion USD in the first quarter of the 2026/27 fiscal year, marking a 25.75 percent increase compared to the same period last year. The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration reported that this figure hit 96.5 percent of the government's quarterly target. Mining was the primary driver, generating 1.73 billion USD, or approximately 55 percent of total export revenue, largely due to increased gold deliveries under new macroeconomic reforms.

Conversely, the manufacturing sector underperformed, generating 111.40 million USD against a target of 172.45 million USD, despite ongoing investments in industrial parks. The ministry noted that challenges such as workforce skills and limited domestic supply chain integration hampered manufacturing exports. Meanwhile, the agriculture sector performed steadily, contributing 1.22 billion USD, bolstered by improvements in pulse and oilseed exports.
