New Filwoha-Old Kera Road Corridor Opens in Addis Ababa
The Addis Ababa City Roads Authority has inaugurated a new 1.42-kilometre road corridor linking Filwoha, Old Kera, and Churchill Avenue. The project, part of the city's broader corridor development programme, expands previous narrow passages to up to 30 metres in width and includes dedicated lanes for pedestrians and cyclists. Engineer Binyam Alemayehu noted the road consists of two sections designed to relieve congestion in the capital's busy commercial centre, providing commuters with alternative routes towards Piassa and Arat Kilo. The initiative aligns with ongoing municipal efforts to overhaul infrastructure, which have included over 241 kilometres of cycle tracks and 426 kilometres of pedestrian walkways as of mid-2026. While the upgrades aim to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety in a city where most trips are made on foot, transport experts note that infrastructure expansion alone may not fully resolve bus and taxi congestion.
