Ten Taxpayers Account for Nearly Half of Ethiopia's Large Taxpayers Revenue

A new macroeconomic report by Cepheus Research & Analytics reveals that ten taxpayers generated 254.4 billion birr in the 2025/26 fiscal year, accounting for nearly half of the revenue collected by the Ministry of Revenues’ Large Taxpayers Branch. Despite representing only 1.3 percent of the 746 registered large taxpayers, this small group contributed 48.7 percent of the branch’s 522.7 billion birr total collection.

The report highlights that state-owned enterprises remain central to government revenue, with 31 such entities contributing 217.9 billion birr, or approximately 42 percent of the branch's collections. Meanwhile, 127 foreign-invested firms contributed 102.2 billion birr, and 50 financial institutions added 65.4 billion birr. In contrast, 532 domestically owned private companies, despite their numbers, accounted for only about one-fifth of the total revenue collected by the branch.
