Dashen Bank Launches 'AirPay' Digital Payment Service

Dashen Bank has launched 'Dashen AirPay,' a new digital payment service allowing customers to pay merchants without needing account numbers, phone numbers, or QR codes. Integrated into the existing Dashen Super App, the service lets users identify nearby merchants directly through the app, enter the amount, and confirm with a PIN. Bank executives stated the feature is designed to strengthen connections between consumers and businesses while simplifying transaction times.

The launch comes as Ethiopia’s banking sector pushes to reduce cash reliance. EthSwitch data indicates that digital payment interoperability reached 387 million transactions in the 2025/26 fiscal year, valued at roughly 7.8 billion USD. Dashen Bank expects this new platform to further drive adoption and improve transaction processing efficiencies for its customer base.
