EagleLion Secures Patent for AirPay Digital Payment Technology

The Ethiopian Intellectual Property Authority has granted patent protection to EagleLion System Technology Group for 'AirPay,' a new digital payment technology. This system allows customers to make payments to nearby merchants without the need for account numbers, QR codes, or physical payment cards. The technology is currently integrated into Dashen Bank’s SuperApp, enabling users to search for and identify registered businesses for transactions. Beyond merchant payments, AirPay supports peer-to-peer transfers. While EagleLion claims AirPay is the first technology of its kind globally, it has not provided independent verification for this assertion. There is currently no disclosure regarding the number of merchants using the service or whether the technology will be extended to other financial institutions beyond Dashen Bank.
