Ethiopia Establishes Legal Framework for Collective Investment Schemes
Ethiopia has officially established a legal framework for collective investment schemes, introducing mechanisms such as mutual funds, money market funds, real estate funds, and Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs). While these financial tools are standard globally, they represent a significant innovation for the Ethiopian financial sector. Specifically, savers, corporate entities, financial institutions, and regulatory bodies must quickly adapt to these new instruments. The introduction of these schemes is intended to deepen the capital market and provide more investment avenues. However, the consultant emphasizes that the legal framework alone is insufficient without strong institutional preparation and public awareness to ensure these tools function effectively within the unique context of the Ethiopian economy.
