Ethiopia to Host Africa Agricultural Policy Research Institutes Conference
The Africa Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ANAPRI), in partnership with Ethiopia’s Policy Studies Institute (PSI), will host a conference focused on building competitive agrifood economies in Africa. The event, themed “Building Competitive Agrifood Economies: Policy, Trade, and Industrialization Pathways for Africa,” aims to address challenges such as low productivity and high production costs while discussing regional trade and climate resilience. ANAPRI Executive Director Antony Chapoto emphasized that agricultural transformation must go beyond increasing production to include developing competitive industries and expanding markets. Desalegn Begna of Ethiopia's PSI noted that Ethiopia will showcase its recent progress in wheat production as a model for other nations. The conference will bring together policymakers and researchers to discuss strategies for strengthening agricultural systems. Furthermore, ANAPRI plans to introduce its 2027–2031 Strategic Plan, which focuses on enhancing institutional capacity and translating research into practical policy solutions.
