Ethiopia Inaugurates 11 Electric Vehicle Fast-Charging Stations
Ethiopia has inaugurated 11 new electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging stations across Addis Ababa, Bishoftu, Mojo, Adama, Batu, and Hawassa. CEO of Ethiopian Electric Utility, Getu Geremew, stated the initiative is part of a broader plan to meet the rising demand for EV charging as the country transitions to electric mobility.
Following the January 2024 ban on internal combustion engine vehicle imports, the government aims to increase charging infrastructure fivefold within the next year. The long-term National E-Mobility Strategy (2025–2030) plans to establish over 2,200 charging centers nationwide to reduce fuel imports and lower pollution.
