Ethiopian Government Takes Over Awash–Kombolcha–Hara Gebeya Railway Project

The Ethiopian government has officially taken over the restoration of the stalled Awash–Kombolcha–Hara Gebeya railway line project. The Ethiopian Railways Corporation (ERC) is deploying its own workforce, machinery, and materials to revive the corridor, which had been previously halted. This action comes as the arbitration process between the ERC and the former contractor, Yapı Merkezi, nears its final conclusion. Seleshi Kassa, Deputy CEO for Railway Infrastructure at the ERC, confirmed the government's direct involvement in resuming the construction efforts. The project aims to reconnect critical economic corridors that were left incomplete following the dispute with the contractor.
