Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede and other Tigray leaders taken to unknown location

Former Tigray interim administration president Lt. Gen. Tadesse Werede, security head Col. Tewolde Gebretinsae, and political affairs head Isaias Tadesse have been forcibly removed from their detention site at the HZ Hotel in Mekelle. Family sources confirmed that armed individuals broke into the hotel room around 3:00 AM on October 3, 2026, and extracted the leaders by force.

Reports indicate that the detainees had previously refused to leave the facility when earlier attempts were made. According to family sources, the armed group took the individuals toward the Adigrat direction. The leaders had been held in Mekelle for the past nine days prior to this forced transfer.
