Reports emerge of Eritrean troops entering Tigray region

Residents of Adigrat and international news agencies have reported large-scale movements of Eritrean troops within the Tigray region. Since the morning of Wednesday, Meskerem 27, 2019 E.C., eyewitnesses have reported seeing Eritrean soldiers, armed with heavy weaponry, traveling by truck and on foot toward Mekelle. Adigrat city officials told AFP that the presence of these troops has caused fear among the local population, and the conflict monitoring group ACLED has confirmed that the forces crossed the border. Conversely, Eritrean Information Minister Yemane Gebremeskel has rejected the reports as false. There has been no official statement from the Ethiopian federal government regarding these movements.
