Two cargo ships sink following attacks in the Strait of Hormuz
Two international cargo ships have sunk following rocket and missile attacks near the Strait of Hormuz in the last 24 hours. A Singapore-flagged container ship, capable of carrying 2,824 containers, was struck, caught fire, and sank; all crew members were reported safe. Additionally, an Antigua and Barbuda-flagged dry cargo vessel, which had been struck weeks earlier, finally sank within the last 24 hours. One crew member on this vessel died during the initial attack, while others escaped.
Attacks along this critical maritime trade route have intensified significantly over the past 10 days. Iran has indicated that it is increasing its operations in response to the maritime blockades and harsh economic sanctions imposed by the United States on its ports.
