Over 40 Killed in Armed Attack in Shirka Woreda, Arsi Zone

More than 40 people have been killed in an armed attack in Shirka Woreda, Arsi Zone of the Oromia region, according to local church officials speaking to Tikvah Ethiopia. The attack, which began at 4:00 AM on October 24, 2026 (Tikimt 14, 2019 E.C.), occurred in the Chole and Soledigelu kebeles, leaving many others wounded and hospitalized.

Church officials stated that they had repeatedly warned authorities about armed groups entering the area but received no adequate response. The attack reportedly targeted churches, with at least one facility looted. Amidst the ongoing burials of the victims, officials noted that roads have been blocked, restricting public movement and heightening security fears. They issued a desperate plea for their right to life to be respected.
