Administrative Action Taken on Illegal Car Sales in Addis Ababa
The Addis Ababa Revenue Bureau announced that it has taken administrative action against 45 vehicles offered for sale in the Kirkos sub-city without the required city business licenses or valid receipts. The bureau noted that some importers are attempting to evade taxes by hiding vehicles in residential areas, warehouses, and religious institutions to conduct illegal sales. Officials clarified that this measure is an administrative correction, not a confiscation of property. The bureau reiterated that to conduct car sales in Addis Ababa, importers must obtain a city trade license, issue proper receipts, use sales registration machines, and fulfill monthly VAT and annual tax obligations. A similar action was previously taken against four vehicles in the Nifas Silk Lafto sub-city.
