3 Billion Birr 'New Leaf Medical Complex' Inaugurated in Addis Ababa
A major new health facility named 'New Leaf Medical Complex,' constructed at a cost of over 3 billion Birr, has officially been inaugurated in Addis Ababa by Mayor Adanech Abebe. The 13-story modern medical plaza features more than 110 hospital beds and 8 advanced operating theaters under one roof. It aims to position Addis Ababa as a health tourism hub in East Africa while significantly reducing foreign currency expenditure and travel stress for patients. Previously, over 10,000 Ethiopians traveled abroad annually for advanced medical treatments, incurring costs of up to 700 million USD. The complex offers over 20 specialist and sub-specialist services, equipped with modern technologies for cancer, cardiac, and intensive care. Notably, it introduces an American-made GE brand PET-CT Scan—the first in Ethiopia's private sector, second overall in the country, and third in East Africa. Additional medical equipment installed includes a Cath Lab, Heart-Lung machine for cardiac surgery, MRI, and CT-Scan devices. During the ceremony, Mayor Adanech Abebe emphasized that realizing the city's health tourism vision requires strong private sector participation alongside government initiatives, pledging continued support from the city administration.
