Study Reveals Severe Service and Protection Gaps in Tigray IDP Camps
A recent study led by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) cluster has highlighted severe shortages in essential services across internally displaced person (IDP) sites in Tigray. Covering 78 sites across 5 zones and 21 districts, the assessment affects nearly 307,000 displaced individuals. Although 95% of the camps received some food aid, it remains largely insufficient to meet basic needs. Furthermore, 45 sites lack any security services, 36 receive no shelter support, and only 4 sites have adequate water and sanitation facilities. Operational gaps are most critical in the Central Zone, where 100% of assessed sites lack CCCM services despite hosting 19% of the region's total IDP population. High-level safety concerns were identified, including child protection risks in 64 sites and gender-based violence threats in 46 sites.
