Armed Attack Reported in Central Ethiopia's East Gurage Zone
Reports indicate that civilians have been killed and abducted following an attack by armed groups in the East Gurage Zone of the Central Ethiopia region. Temesgen Kassa, head of the region’s Peace and Security Bureau, confirmed the attack, attributing it to armed individuals who identify themselves as 'Fano.' According to the official, these groups engage in looting and killing, and he expressed concern over the targeted nature of the violence against specific ethnic groups.
An investigation team has been deployed to determine the exact number of casualties and the extent of property damage. While the regional government claims to have attempted peaceful dialogues with armed elements to bring them back to society, officials state that some groups refuse to cease their violent activities. Meanwhile, independent observers have criticized security institutions for their slow response time and alleged neutrality issues in handling the ongoing insecurity.
