Ethiopian Marathoner Tigst Assefa Undergoes Surgery Following Injury in Berlin
Ethiopian marathon runner Tigst Assefa has undergone surgery after sustaining a severe injury during the Berlin Marathon last Sunday. According to her coach, Gemedu Dedefo, Assefa was running at a world-record pace when she ruptured a tendon in her right leg just two kilometers before the finish line. Despite the immense pain, she demonstrated remarkable resilience to complete the race in 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 04 seconds. Coach Gemedu revealed that sportswear brand Adidas immediately airlifted her via helicopter to a specialized hospital and is currently covering all medical expenses. Medical professionals indicate that if her recovery progresses well over the next six weeks, she could resume light training within three months. The injury came as a major disappointment after two years of intense preparation aimed at setting a new world record.
