North Korean hackers linked to $6.3 billion theft from Binance
Cybersecurity researchers, including TRM Labs and Chainalysis, have linked the North Korean hacking group known as the 'Lazarus Group' or 'TraderTraitor' to the theft of $6.3 billion from the major cryptocurrency platform Binance. While the North Korean government has long denied such allegations, researchers maintain that the group is state-backed. The report notes that the group has a history of major cyberattacks, including the 2014 hack on Sony Pictures and a $1.5 billion theft from the Bybit platform, as reported by the FBI. Intelligence suggests that Pyongyang actively recruits and trains skilled students for these state-controlled cyber operations to generate illicit revenue. These activities are reportedly often coordinated from locations near the Chinese border.
