Over 300 Killed in Drone Strikes Across Sudan and Abyei
Over 300 civilians have been killed in separate drone strikes in West Kordofan and the contested region of Abyei. On Sunday, a strike in West Kordofan killed 150 people, while a Monday attack on a market in Abyei resulted in 153 deaths, according to local officials and the Sudan War Observatory. The Sudanese military is accused of targeting the Abyei market under the justification that it supplied fuel to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), despite the area being a demilitarized zone under UN protection. This escalation in a sensitive territory raises fears of renewed tensions between Sudan and South Sudan. The UN has expressed deep concern, noting that such strikes exacerbate an already catastrophic humanitarian crisis involving famine and displacement for millions. Investigations by the BBC verify the destruction of buildings at the market site.
