High-Level Eritrean Delegation Holds Strategic Bilateral Talks with US Officials in Washington
A high-level Eritrean delegation led by Foreign Minister Osman Saleh conducted strategic discussions in Washington with senior United States officials, focusing on bilateral relations, trade, investment, and regional security. Held on October 1, the meetings featured key US figures including Acting Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Alison Hooker and Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Frank Garcia. Minister Osman welcomed Washington's recent decision to completely lift economic sanctions on Eritrea—which had previously targeted the Eritrean Defense Forces, the PFDJ, Red Sea Trading Corporation, Hidri Trust, and senior officials under Executive Order 14046. The Eritrean government expressed optimism about entering a new era of constructive partnership, mutual respect, and expanded economic cooperation with the US. Eritrean representatives highlighted Asmara's active role in promoting peace and security across the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea region, the Gulf of Aden, and the Nile Basin. US officials noted that lifting the sanctions reflects a commitment to strengthening bilateral ties based on shared interests, and both sides agreed to continue dialogue to expand future cooperation.
