Ministry of Foreign Affairs Issues Statement on Red Sea and Blue Nile Issues

The Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has responded to a recent statement made by Egypt with neighboring countries regarding the Nile and regional dynamics. The Ministry emphasized that Ethiopia contributes 85% of the Blue Nile's water and asserted that any discussions regarding its management must account for this reality. Furthermore, it highlighted Ethiopia's historical and geographical connection to the Red Sea, noting that its border is only 48 kilometers from the coast. The statement insists that any regional security dialogue must respect Ethiopia's legal interests and legitimate role. The Ministry concluded that political rhetoric or external provocations cannot alter these facts, reaffirming Ethiopia's commitment to peaceful cooperation while remaining ready to defend its sovereignty and national interests.
