Tensions and armed clashes escalate in Moyale following regional border dispute
The town of Moyale on the Ethio-Kenyan border is experiencing severe tension following an armed conflict between factions over territorial claims involving the Oromia and Somali regions. The dispute originated from a disagreement over the placement of regional flags on contested land, which escalated into gunfire. Reports confirm that a teenager has been killed in the violence.
As of today, the town remains largely shut down, including the closure of the critical Ethio-Kenya highway, customs offices, and other essential services. Residents reported hearing sporadic heavy gunfire since last night and expressed fear for their lives, with some fleeing across the border to Kenya. Authorities have not yet provided an official comment regarding the situation or the deployment of federal security forces.
