Drone attack on IDP camp in South Wollo kills 16

A drone attack struck the Jari No. 2 IDP camp in South Wollo zone on October 29, 2026 (Tikimt 19, 2019 E.C.). According to camp committee members, 14 people were killed instantly, and two others died after being transported to Dessie for medical treatment, bringing the death toll to 16. Among the victims were children, and 29 others were wounded. The victims were displaced persons from Wollega, Oromia, seeking shelter. Residents reported that fighting continued the following day, and the presence of drones in the area forced them to flee toward Dessie and Hayq towns for safety. The committee stated they have received no government support and are currently facing severe insecurity.
