35,000 residents affected by drought in Irob woreda
Irob woreda, located in the Eastern Zone of the Tigray region, is facing a severe drought affecting approximately 35,000 residents. The lack of summer rainfall has caused wells to dry up, crops to fail, and livestock deaths to occur. The delivery of humanitarian aid is complicated by the rugged, mountainous terrain of the eight affected kebeles.
The region was severely impacted by the 2013 E.C. (2020-2021) Tigray war, and some areas remain under the control of Eritrean forces. Residents are urgently calling for food, water, and animal fodder. While some individual donors have started providing grain, the overall humanitarian situation remains critical, and relief efforts are struggling to meet the extensive needs.
