Addis Ababa Revenue Bureau takes action against car importers for tax evasion
The Addis Ababa Revenue Bureau has announced measures taken against car importers for engaging in illegal tax evasion. The Bureau stated that these importers failed to sell vehicles at their authorized premises, instead using commission agents to bypass tax regulations. Investigations have confirmed that some individuals and organizations were involved in illegal practices, leading to the sealing of their shops and the suspension of their temporary licenses. It was also noted that some importers misused their permits to sell vehicles on behalf of third parties. Under the new Value Added Tax Proclamation No. 1341/2017, business must be conducted only in authorized locations and sectors. The Bureau has warned that commission agents selling used cars are prohibited from selling new vehicles and must report sales data promptly to tax authorities.
