Veteran Afaan Oromo Musician Ilfinash Qanoo Passes Away

Renowned Afaan Oromo musician Ilfinash Qanoo has passed away today following a period of illness and medical treatment. Born in the Sibu Guto area near Nekemte in the East Wollega Zone, she first joined the struggle in 1969 E.C. She dedicated decades to advocating for the rights of the Oromo people through her impactful resistance songs and poetry. The Oromia Regional Government issued a tribute highlighting her pioneering role in utilizing artistic expression to advance public struggles. Ilfinash had lived in Norway for many years before returning to her homeland of Ethiopia recently. She was receiving medical care in Ethiopia until her passing.
