Over 600 Prisoners, Including Christian Tadele, Released

The Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC) announced that over 600 prisoners have been released following pardons and the dropping of charges. Among those released is politician Christian Tadele. The commission stated it had been negotiating with the government for the past five months to secure these releases. The individuals freed were detained at the federal level; this figure does not include prisoners being released separately by the Amhara and Oromia regional governments. Additionally, 28 prisoners on the same docket were not released because they did not submit pardon requests. The EHRC noted that the rights of the released individuals, which had been legally suspended, have now been restored.
