Tigray TV Suspended Indefinitely by Ethiopian Media Authority

The Ethiopian Media Authority (EMA) has announced an indefinite suspension of Tigray TV starting today, Meskerem 11, 2017 E.C. According to the authority, although the previous ban on Tigray TV was lifted following discussions and agreements with the Tigray Interim Administration after the Pretoria Peace Agreement, recent content monitoring revealed significant violations. The EMA stated that Tigray TV has repeatedly transmitted messages that endanger national security, public safety, and national interests, while inciting conflict and encouraging extremism. Consequently, the regulator suspended the station indefinitely in line with its legal obligations. Additionally, the authority strictly prohibited any broadcast, digital, or print media from using Tigray TV as a news source or echoing its content. The EMA warned that it will take all necessary legal and administrative actions against any media organization that violates this directive.
