Eritrean Forces Reportedly Moving Through Adigrat Toward Mekelle

Residents of Adigrat and surrounding areas reported seeing Eritrean military forces moving through the city toward Mekelle. Local witnesses told news outlets, including the BBC and AFP, that they saw over 40 trucks carrying Eritrean soldiers, alongside infantry forces, traveling along the main road toward central Tigray. The reports come amid escalating conflict in the region and severe diplomatic tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea. Both countries recently closed their respective embassies and expelled diplomats following disputes over regional alignment and sea access issues. Meanwhile, Eritrea, Egypt, Sudan, and Somalia reportedly held a meeting to align their security and military cooperation, raising concerns among analysts about a potential wider regional conflict in the Horn of Africa.
