French Retailer Carrefour to Launch Operations in Ethiopia
French retail giant Carrefour will officially launch operations in Ethiopia starting December 8, 2024 (Hidar 29, 2017 E.C.), according to a statement by MIDROC Investment Group. This follows a franchise and supply agreement signed earlier this year between Carrefour and Queen's Supermarket, a MIDROC company.
Existing Queen's Supermarket locations are currently being rebranded as Carrefour stores. There are plans to expand the number of stores from the current 15 to 31 by 2027. The partnership aims to leverage MIDROC's agricultural experience to export Ethiopian products like coffee, tea, spices, and flowers into Carrefour's global retail network. Carrefour is a global retailer operating over 15,000 stores in more than 40 countries, reporting 94.6 billion euros in sales in 2024.
